MY INDUSTRIAL TRAINING SAGA — 2022!
It all started about 8months ago. I was busy looking for a placement for my industrial training. I submitted my letter to different companies but all I kept getting was “we currently have some IT Students, once they are done, we will get back to you, thank you”. This happened for almost 4months, hoping one will surely work.
So, on one sunny day, different thought kept flowing through my mind. I thought of a Brother as per say he’s an Engineering graduate “Adedotun Timileyin Adegoke” and told Mum, “let’s try and reach this brother”, and he’s in Ilorin. We called him. He gave his promise to get back to us the next day. And, fortunately, he did. He got back to us.
The following day, what I saw was surprising, and it stated — “Hello Fatiu, I’ve been to a place, and they’ve agreed to have you”. My heart skipped for a moment, trying to relate everything. I toured Lagos State, Ogun State, and Oyo State in search of this thing. Indeed, destiny can never be changed, but it can be made. That’s all I get to see in all these.
The next day, he dropped me a message, and it was “Brother, will you be able to make it to Ilorin tomorrow, or what do you feel?” I gladly replied, “Yes, I sure will, what’s the point in staying back". I asked, what does he deal with? He replied, he fabricates stuffs. I felt relieved with that. But, I never knew he’s an all-round fabricator 'Engr’.
Ní kúkúrú, I got to Ilorin the next day, and decided to pay a visit to the Workshop for familiarity and all, you know. The following day, I was all set for work, I set out for workshop. But, seriously, I couldn't traced my step back to the workshop, I went back home, and called my brother. He gave me the description, and I followed it. To God be the glory, I made it to the workshop.
We started working, my dear, I was tired throughout the first 3days. I’m always tired by any slight stress.. I wasn’t used to standing. You understand. When the Boss noticed, he threw a question at me — “you never stood for 4-5hours before”, and I genuinely replied “I never did, Sir”. You can sit down, just be observing, that’s all. I never knew his work was that wide and full of experiences.
That same day (first day), I saw a Boy developed a power bank with a carton as the outer shell — a chargeable and solar one at that. That boy is really full of surprises, he’s one boy that I’m duly pleased, and his style of operating the working tools/equipment is too great…with so much professionalism and accuracy he handle operations. This single act bagged him the name “Eyinjú Ògá" — The apple of the boss’ eyes.
The following week sha, I was full of energy, I’ve gotten used to the system, I can now officially stand for 5hours. And, my bond with my fellow Colleagues has grown much stronger. We now converse as buddies. This made it much easier for me to express myself in their midst. I ask questions whenever I’m confused about one thing or the other.
Fast forward to the day I was introduced to welding with a galvanized pipe, I welded the whole components. As an amateur that I was, I can only weld on galvanized stuffs, 'cause no matter how much the pressure you exerted on it, it will never get punched. It's a safe one for amateurs to weld on. Also introduced to cutting of metal rods, plate etc, and grinding of a welded part for smooth running. And many more.
Oh, sorry, I almost forget. I was introduced to AeroMotor in Ilorin, an Engineering Firm. That’s where we normally roll our plates for their desired purpose. They have different machines there. It’s a big firm. I was at Unilorin two or more times for delivering of their designed works, that couldn’t be fabricated by their Engineers. LMAO. I mean nothing. And some other works I never could thought of.
Finally, my Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) at VICTORY TECH ENGINEERING WORKS was indeed a worthwhile experience as I was exposed to a vast range of knowledge of manufacturing industrial machines, and all effort and systems of promoting its quality.
This course has broadened my knowledge in the practical aspect of my course of study. It was full of fun. I met a lot of amazing and creative people there, Alfa, Aji Baba, Alfa AminuLlah, Godwin, Yorobo, and many more which I will not be able to mention. All thanks to the Boss 'Engr. Sanjo Gbadebo, jiinu Engineering’.
