Should self-driving Cars prioritize passenger safety or pedestrian safety in emergency situations?
With the incessant rise in advancement of technology, it’s important to acknowledge the fact that questions like this should be expected more. This shouldn’t be stretched far. It’s a direct, and complex-free discourse. It’s important to note the effects of technology in this modern day era.
As much as I believe so much in the power of technology, its impacts should be duly noted, the same way its effect should be noted. In situations filled with kind of thought provoking question like this, there should be a comparison between the two bodies involved — the passenger safety or pedestrian safety?
To me, the passenger safety should weigh more than the pedestrian safety. Why? There’s a very very high chance for the passers-by to avenge the danger, but, in most cases, the passengers seem to be in a very critical condition in this kind of scenarios. They are always left with no choice. It takes only the mercy of God to stop it — their survival rate is always slim.
It’s not a rocket science, it’s just a logical question that needs a strategic approach. Both deserve to be saved, but, there’d always be room for negotiation, and I think the best one can do in such position is to consider the passengers safety before the pedestrian safety. Factor of safety (FS) must be considered.
This is just my own opinion, and I’d be happy to have your view on this topic, also. As the saying goes; “a tree can never make a forest". Multitude makes a difference. I’m ready to welcome all opinions. Thank you.
